Watermaker pre-departure checklist

March 5, 2025

Watermaker problems are much easier to fix at the dock than offshore. Run this quick check a few days before you leave — that gives time to sort parts if something's off.

Checklist

  • Change all pre-filters and inspect sea strainer
  • Run the system for at least 30 minutes and log pressure, flow, and salinity
  • Confirm automatic fresh-water flush cycles correctly
  • Inspect for oil weeping around the high-pressure pump
  • Check for any raw-water leaks in the low-pressure loop
  • Carry spare pre-filters, a spare set of pump seals, and pickling chemical

If anything looks off, get it looked at while you're still at the dock.
